With online donations, members and guests can easily set up one time gifts, recurring gifts, and restricted gifts (eg, to a building campaign) with a credit card, checking account, or paypal account.
Your church doesn’t need to set up a merchant account or ACH account. We use PayPal as well as a similar service called “Wepay”. Both Wepay and PayPal accept payments on your church’s behalf and deposits them into an account which your church can then access to transfer funds into its checking account.
Like all online giving options, there are fees associated with using Wepay and PayPal. Wepay changes 3% per credit card transaction or 1% per e-check transaction, while PayPal’s fees vary depending on volume and whether or not you have a non-profit account. You can ask donors to cover this fee from within the software if you’re using Wepay. Please understand that Internet Outreach Experts can take no responsibility for your relationship with any 3rd party, Wepay.com or PayPal.com, once the software is set up.
Wepay is the recommended solution for online payments because donors never leave your site, and it’s much easier to customize items like directed giving. Most of the text on widget can be changed; just let us know what you want it to say. We can set 90% of this up for you, but in order to withdraw money from your Wepay account, you’ll need to give them the church’s EIN (Employer Identification Number) to prove your identity and of course the banking account information (found on any check) for the account you want the donations placed into. A responsible party, such as the treasurer or financial secretary, should finish setting up the churches Wepay account, and access to that should be as strictly protected as access to any other banking information.
If you would like to use PayPal to accept payments online, we will need access to your PayPal account to set up online giving with our software. Please change your password once we have completed the set up.
For more details on how to set up Wepay and how to generate giving reports that can be imported into your church financial software, please see the training videos on these topics in the training videos section. Giving statements are also available through paypal.
