If the word seems to follow the structure of a specific kind of word, like a verb in the past tense or a plural noun, you can make educated guesses based on that. For example, if you have “_ _ _ e d,” you might guess that the word is a past tense verb and consider common letters that could fit the pattern. I Dream About Sports All Day

Have you ever wondered what the name “Adidas” really means? If you’ve seen the iconic three stripes, you might think it stands for something profound, like “All Day I Dream About Sports.” This catchy phrase has circulated for years, but is it actually true?

Sports history was always witnessing the prominent presence of Adidas. Just after Germany was crushed in the World War II, in the 1954 World Cup final, the Germans football team faced the unbeatable Hungarian team. On the rainy final day, the German team coach, Sepp Herberger, presented the players with new foot-ball boots made out of thinner and lighter leather, fixed with screw-in studs, made by Adidas. Rest is the history, Germans won the World Cup in 1954. The victory spread the country a much essential shake-up after their World War defeat. This unbelievable winning of the Germans made Adidas a household name on football grounds across world.

So it is not surprising that the somewhat odd name of the European shoe and sports apparel company Adidas has given rise to legends about the origin of its name. The first acronym bandied about as the basis of the company’s name was ‘All Day I Dream About Soccer,’ although more recently the more generic ‘All Day I Dream About Sport’ has become a popular guess for the origin of the company’s name.

Whenever we come across a sportsman wearing three stripes on the shoes, running and sporting with utmost dynamism, what’s that immediately strike our mind? Undoubtedly, it’s the very sports brand- Adidas. These three parallel lines have always turned into a question mark on my mind. Why the three stripes as the brand logo? What does it mean by placing three parallel lines? Are those stripes designed to represent something in specific or is it ‘just any other designer logo’? Let’s find idea behind the three stripes.

All About Sports

There are opposing views on the necessity of competition as a defining element of a sport, with almost all professional sports involving competition, and governing bodies requiring competition as a prerequisite of recognition by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) or GAISF.

Sport is a physical activity or game, often competitive and organized, that maintains or improves physical ability and skills. Sport may provide enjoyment to participants and entertainment to spectators. The number of participants in a particular sport can vary from hundreds of people to a single individual.

In the 20th century, sports underwent social as well as spatial diffusion. After a long and frequently bitter struggle, African Americans, Australian Aboriginal people, “Cape Coloureds” (in South Africa), and other excluded racial and ethnic groups won the right to participate in sports. After a long and somewhat less-bitter struggle, women also won the right to compete in sports—such as rugby—that had been considered quintessentially masculine.

In the history of Ireland, Gaelic sports were connected with cultural nationalism. Until the mid-20th century a person could have been banned from playing Gaelic football, hurling, or other sports administered by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) if she/he played or supported Association football, or other games seen to be of British origin. The GAA banned the playing of football and rugby union at Gaelic venues. This ban, also known as Rule 42, is still enforced, but was modified to allow football and rugby to be played in Croke Park while Lansdowne Road was redeveloped into Aviva Stadium. Under Rule 21, the GAA banned members of the British security forces and members of the RUC from playing Gaelic games, but the advent of the Good Friday Agreement in 1998 led to removal of the ban.

No one can say when sports began. Since it is impossible to imagine a time when children did not spontaneously run races or wrestle, it is clear that children have always included sports in their play, but one can only speculate about the emergence of sports as autotelic physical contests for adults. Hunters are depicted in prehistoric art, but it cannot be known whether the hunters pursued their prey in a mood of grim necessity or with the joyful abandon of sportsmen. It is certain, however, from the rich literary and iconographic evidence of all ancient civilizations that hunting soon became an end in itself—at least for royalty and nobility. Archaeological evidence also indicates that ball games were common among ancient peoples as different as the Chinese and the Aztecs. If ball games were contests rather than noncompetitive ritual performances, such as the Japanese football game kemari, then they were sports in the most rigorously defined sense. That it cannot simply be assumed that they were contests is clear from the evidence presented by Greek and Roman antiquity, which indicates that ball games had been for the most part playful pastimes like those recommended for health by the Greek physician Galen in the 2nd century ce.
